The playstyle doesn't change that much between CNJ and White Mage, so if you play to LV.15 and Sastasha, you will understand how the class and job works in most content. As you level White Mage, you basically get a few more AoE options and buffs to your heal spells. If you decide it's not for you, the cross-class is at least essential for a Scholar and Astrologian and is not a complete waste.

Scholar has the fairy. Between the fairy and the raw mitigation/barriers you bring to the table, you can go entire pulls without needing to cast a heal. That means you can spend more time DPSing or whatever. It's a lot more forgiving, but be aware there's a high skill cap when handling the pets.

FFXIV Astrologian requires the most resource management and detailed knowledge of the other classes. The buffs are extremely powerful, but only if used the right way (e.g. putting ewer on monks or spear on anything after combat starts). That said, Astrologian is also the most mobile of the healers. Half of their abilities are instant-casts or can be converted to instant casts. If you prefer the more mobile playstyle of a melee dps or are having stutter-stepping as a caster between casts, you may consider this. Just be aware of the resource management and knowledge of classes beforehand.

Significanly Increase Astrologian's Natural DPS

I've been playing Astrologian since it came out and what OP is suggesting is entirely unnecessary. Yes it does need tweeks but dramatically buffing the potencies of the cards by double or triple of their original potency is far too much
