Now in HW, their AoE is boosted further with the new skills they get but Dragoons remained the same, making monks actually overtake dragoons in this regard (and with their flexibility, allows monks to weave between ST and AoE with ease, dragoons need to cut their ST combo in favor of AoE and drop BotD, possibly dropping a lot of ST DPS depending on how long you have left on the CD of BotD). Monks definitely have a higher AoE sustained DPS now.

I will agree that monks have inferior utility overall. Their utility is defensive, but mantra pretty much only makes up for Battle litany, and dragon kick's defensive utility was taken up by Dark Knights.

However, in terms of ST DPS balance, Monks have a superior controlled burst than Dragoons, the problem with Monk burst is that they lose FFXIV GIL 3 at the end of it, so they only use it before a downtime where they cannot maintain GL3, or when they REALLY need the burst. Dragoons on the other hand, only have a burst on their opening at around the 9th-10th Global Cool Down then their DPS drops off over time. I was fine with the balance BEFORE the changes, because Dragoons, although having superior dummy ST DPS, cannot perform their optimal rotation in a raid setting thanks to various mechanics, which impacts dragoons more than it impacts Monks or NINs. In that sense, Monks and Dragoons pull about equal DPS in an actual raid setting (Monks probably needed the QoL boosts, but not the QoL AND Damage boosts)

The part i mentioned about mantra in the other thread was mostly just putting it out there. Ultimately mantra is a defensive cooldown, I don't intend to propagate that as a DPS utility.

not complaining about having the time to fit DoTs into rotation, i know they are there, the flexibility however, is another issue when target switching, if a target will die in ~25 seconds, Monks can switch to it and immediately apply DoTs, if Dragoons are mid combo, they need to finish their combo in the next 1-3 Global Cool Downs before applying the DoT, thats about 2.4-7.2 seconds off the DoT ticks, a DPS loss.

My suggestions for FFXIV Astrologian are mostly as written on the shortlist in sig

Draw will only cool down for up to 15 seconds before the card already drawn must be used to continue the cooldown. At level 40, FFXIV Astrologian receives the ability Spread, with no cooldown, into which a drawn card can be saved.

FFXIV Heavensward: Astrologian's biggest flaws in my honest opinion

The Astrologian/Scholar should be the better compo in term of DPS (Selene + cards) but since most of the time you end-up using Eos with an Astrologian

That mantra still applies to FFXIV

That mantra still applies to FFXIV. It's the internet. Just expect more of the latter. It stinks, yeah, but people take advantage of anonymity. And their insecurities show a lot when they're stressed

I just switched to Warrior from Dark Knight for my current static

One thing though is I probably would go with 15000 if your healers/static is brand new to A1s until everyone gets their bearings, then go more Strength from there.

I never had MP issues as FFXIV Astrologian in both Nocturnal and Diurnal

I never had MP issues as FFXIV Astrologian in both Nocturnal and Diurnal. Knowing the exact phases helps a lot when it comes to cooldowns.
