FFXIV Highlighting An Issue Within The Light Party Ranking System
For starters, I'd like to state that this is coming from someone who majority of the time deals with premade 4v4 Feast ques and matches on Chaos (EU) DC. After the start of the official season, haven't delved into solo que all that much so that's not where I'm coming from.
With that out of the way, let's go:
Haven't seen a lot of discussion about the premade ques, or how their ranking system works, and as such would like to bring up an issue or at least something that in my eyes seems like a big issue. Perhaps not so much on more active PvP DCs.
If you have a set group of 3 people you que with constantly and are at equal or near equal rank points, at some point you'll hit a wall where any unranked team will reward you only +1 ranking points. Where's that wall? At around 600 to 800 points, if I remember correctly. So after that point, all you're getting is +1's and maybe the occasional +2's or +3's if you happen to get a team with one or two Bronze players. And that happens a lot on Chaos, there's not a lot of active players or teams around in the light party que. From that point onwards you're pretty much moving forward at a snail's pace, which isn't that big of an issue on it's own. But here's the twist:
If you don't have a set group of 3 people, and you have say, couple unrankeds + 1 Bronze + 1 Silver player and you get matched against those same fully unranked teams you'll get compensated (couldn't think of a better word) and actually earn more points. Even that Silver player. Or a Gold one for that matter. As long as there's one unranked player, you'll gain more points as the higher ranked player(s). Well, sounds fair since you're probably taking someone new in. But you can abuse the system to get such an advantage in the early season or even push higher in the mid season to catch up with anyone at the top running a set group of premade, moving forward at a snail's pace with their +1 points.
What if someone got so much ahead in points early in comparison to the rest of the DC, that anyone running that static premade group will take many weeks' worth of points to even start catching up? Already happening, not sure about other DCs. The best part though? You'll get "punished" for running that static team by losing a lot of points whenever you lose to teams near your rank, but with an unranked person. But they lose less points, exactly because of that unranked/lower tier player. So you'll actually lose and risk more by running a static team rather than taking someone new every now and then. And you have the possibility to carry yourself or someone else to the top without actually working for it, because you'll get more points and progress from the new and unexperienced teams compared to the static premade teams getting next to nothing, and all of what I said above.
Now, like I said the situation might be very different from other DCs, and you might not even see this as an issue on yours. Maybe through bigger player/team pools, maybe because of something else. You can’t really tell either whether if the intent in abusing the ranking system is malicious or if the people just can’t find a set group of people. But in my opinion this is a flaw in the ranking system that needs to get fixed. Which is why I'm trying to bring up and highlight this issue.
I don't know how exactly you'd change it to get balanced or fair, maybe reduce the amount of points the higher ranked players get in a team like one I described. Or by degrading points from the people that aren't actively playing to defend their top spot. I'd personally like to see set teams you register and you work towards your team's ranking, not your own one. Just throwing something out there, and admittedly haven't even seriously tried to think of something.
That's my thoughts with a tiny bit of salt, what are yours? Any great ideas on how this could be fixed? Do you even see this as an issue on your DC? My intention with this post is to bring attention and awareness to something that is an issue within the ranking system so that the message could be relayed forward so the devs might have a look at it, if something could or needs to be done about it. So any great ideas, suggestions or thoughts below are appreciated.
I know this post is a bit all over the place, and just a wall of text. I'm not the best writer. But thanks for reading either way.
Not at the expense of a 2 million ffxiv gil fixture that gets destroyed the second we remove it
Whenever a new submenu item is added, it gets added to the top of the submenu. Great if you're going by the "We want people to notice and use their new menu options" theory
I started my crafting in the streets of Uldah as a nobody with barely any ffxiv gil
I started my crafting in the streets of Uldah as a nobody with barely any ffxiv gil, now I ended my career there in the same place of Uldah with friends' support! It's fate!
Here's a rundown of the process(ffxiv new majestic gear by chance)
Zodiac I think of this as the collect tons of stuff stage. Based off a wiki, you need over 400k FFXIV Gil, 80k Company Seals, 1600 Allagan Tomestone of Poetics, drops from 16 dungeons
Final Fantasy XIV Dark Knight
Change or replace smokescreen, a 3minute CD quelling strike is useless. If the healer gets aggro on trashpulls we can simply shadeshift to the tank and rip the monsters off the healer.
Parties kicking for squabbles is nothing new in the FFXIV Duty Finder
Anyways, that's my two cents and a nice chunk of text, tanks denying full clears and parties kicking for squabbles is nothing new in the FFXIV Duty Finder
Lets look at the tome cap change problem - Final Fantasy XIV Online
Even in FFXIV we have something like that, its just sad the blue XP bar does have a max limit..
